Prof. Hendrik Sebastiaan (Drikus) Kriek is Dean and Director of the Doctoral Programmes (Executive PhD and DBA) at the IEDC-Bled School of Management in Bled, Slovenia. In this role he ensures delivery of the academic programs, executes decisions of the Faculty bodies, and manages academic faculty. He is responsible for the strategic direction of the institution, ensures financial performance thereof, and manages operational matters related to the programs of the school. His previous business experience, consulting expertise, and involvement at the cutting edge of business needs equip him well to align the school with modern business needs. His experience of the management education industry leaves an international and diverse footprint through for example lecturing (Latvia, Ukraine, Bosnia Herzegovina, Russia, Serbia); conference presentations (European Management Development Association and Baltic Management Development Association); peer-review accreditations (AMBA and CEEMAN), and conference chairmanships (Academy of Management Specialized conference and CEEMAN annual conference) along with industry-related collaboration in Europe and South Africa e.g (Slovene HR Association) and consulting interventions (e.g Heinecken (Adria-region); Tikveš (North Macedonia)). His responsibilities of aligning the school with demands of modern-day business ensure that he is focused on industry needs, the dynamics of the field, and propelling the school to impactful contributions to business and society.
He is Associate-Professor of Leadership at the Faculty of Post-Graduate Studies of the IEDC Bled School of Management and at the Wits Business School (WBS) of the University of the Witwatersrand. At the former he was instrumental in establishing the Team Development Institute while he was director of the Leadership Development Centre during his time at WBS. He teaches Leadership, Leading High-Performance Teams and Organisation Development courses on various local and international Doctoral, MBA and Coaching programmes as well as on executive education programmes to organisations, enterprises and clients. His latest book, ˝Teams: The Art of Leading Teams˝ was published in 2022 while his next (˝MINDSPACE: Motivating teams˝) is currently in press. He is the author of various books on teams including Team Leadership: Theories, Tools and Techniques; Creative Problem Solving: A manual for South African Teams; 50 African Teambuilding Activities, and Teambuilding (with Greyling Viljoen). Recently his research, leadership development interventions and lecturing focus on leadership identity and leader well-being with emphasis on the role that play in the uptake and execution of leadership roles.
